The perfekt walk at paviken the nature reserve of Paviken you will find a perfect destination of unique history, beautiful scenery and rich bird life. The walk from Hotel Stelor only takes about 15 minutes and you can choose between the long track around the lake (it takes about an hour) or just bring a picnic basket and enjoy the nature. During the Viking era, Paviken was a harbour of significance and a place for trade. For over 300 years the now so calm lake, was a meeting place and findings from as far away as the Middle East have been found by the archaeologists. At the far back of Stelors garden they found well preserved wooden bridges and traces of a market. If birds interest you, you have come to the right place. Over 240 different species have been sighted and the eagles often stir up commotion when they hover above the smaller birds. The best place to overlook the lake is in the bird tower on the east shore.
A road trip along the west coast to the eksta coast this unique little road takes you along the west coast, a few steps from the water. Limestone formations and dramatic landscape to explore raukar drive south on route 140 and you will find a sign saying ”vacker kustväg till Hoburgen”. It translates ”beautiful road to Hoburgen”. It will take you to the very south of Gotland, a beautiful area with the unique areas of limestone formations, so characteristic for Gotland. An island by the island stora Karlsö, this island, a few miles from Gotland, comes with a peace and quiet rarely found anywhere else. We urge you to experience a day trip, with a guided tour along the dramatic cliffs. Here you can see rare birds and plants that have taken this little rock island in the ocean as their place of survival. If you want to stay for the night, book a room in the light house or one of the cabins.
How to find seafood on an island full of farmers When you first visit Gotland it is natural to expect a rich variety of seafood restaurants filled with the catch of the day, but historically Gotland is more of an agricultural place and the range of fish has always been rather limited. But there are still two excellent seafood restaurants that we highly recommend. ”Lergravs brygga” A small restaurant on the north east side of Gotland and ”Bakfickan” located on the main square in Visby, just by St Karins Ruin.
Bakfickan -Seafood restaurant
Creperiet i Hablingbo - French crèpes in a barn in the southern parts of Gotland
Krakas – Fine dining by the east coast
Lilla Bjers- Organic, local and fine dining
H10 - A gathering point all year round
Berså - A quaint coffee place with a small interior design shop
Petesgården - An old farm made into a museeum. They also have a vintage and antique shop
